Full-Stack Developer, Applied AI
Helsinki (hybrid) · permanent, full-time
What this role is about
We are looking for a software developer for whom AI is a natural way to build software. Someone who codes fluently across the full stack, uses AI tools as part of everyday development work, and sees opportunities to automate and improve manual processes. Whether you have several years of development experience or only a few, what matters most is how you feel about code, systems and the value created for users.
At Finnish Design Shop, AI is already part of everyday work: we use modern tools and shared practices. You will not be starting from scratch or working alone - around you, there will be skilled internal AI practitioners and talented external software partners with whom you will develop solutions. This is a new role in the Finnish Design Shop technology team.
What you will do
You will develop AI-based solutions for our e-commerce services and the company’s internal tools. As a full-stack developer, you will work across different layers of the technology stack.
You will build solutions by automating internal tools for areas such as enriching product data, supporting customer service and content production, and improving the e-commerce user experience.
You will take responsibility for reliably operating and further developing AI implementations that have already been built.
You will ensure that the solutions you build fit into our shared practices. Guardrails, evaluation pipelines, CI/CD automation, observability and cost monitoring are part of the foundation of production-level implementations.
You will collaborate with internal AI specialists across different teams: sparring on solutions from your software development perspective, sharing learnings and developing shared practices.
You will work together with our skilled external software partners, spar on AI-related technical choices and move solutions forward.
You will actively follow the development of AI models and development tools, and assess when a new feature is worth bringing into practical use.
You may be the person we are looking for if
You have worked in a full-stack role and feel at home in both frontend and backend.
You understand how services, APIs and data flows fit together.
You have made AI tools part of your everyday coding.
You have built concrete AI implementations or brought AI-assisted development into practice. Experience with areas such as agent-based workflows, MCP integrations, RAG solutions, and building production-ready AI solutions with strong quality assurance is a major plus.
You have a view on system architecture and the ability to justify technical choices in a way that enables others to build on them.
Technologies you will work with
This is a genuine technical software development role. Our stack is varied, and you will encounter technologies across different layers. For example:
Frontend: JavaScript frameworks such as Vue and React
Backend and services: Node, PHP, API-centric architecture
Cloud and infrastructure: a multi-cloud environment based on Azure and UpCloud, with Docker as our container technology
Version control and deployment: GitLab, CI/CD automation
A strong foundation in these types of technologies is needed, but we do not expect a perfect match.
What we offer
A front-row seat in a company where AI is not just experimented with but built into everyday work. You will step into a moving, evolving setup - not start from a blank slate.
The opportunity to build AI solutions in an environment that combines design, international e-commerce, rich product data and a multilingual customer experience.
A network of skilled internal experts and talented external partners. You will be surrounded by people with whom you can spar on even demanding solutions.
The latest AI tools: Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or your favourite editor
The freedom to choose the right solutions and the responsibility to make sure they work.
Global scale for your work: FDS delivers design to more than 180 countries, and our online store is extensively localised for different markets. When you ship to production, customers from Tokyo to New York can see it right away.
The exact level of responsibility and salary will be determined based on the selected candidate’s experience.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do – both from an environmental and societal perspective. We actively promote diversity, inclusion and equity in our workplace. Therefore, we warmly encourage everyone to apply regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation or background.
